Description: | London Welsh Rugby Club has a long and illustrious history in the sport of Rugby Union both in Wales and England. The club choir – is thrilled to have been invited to what should be a wonderful evening in Cranleigh. Since its formation, under the presidency of Wales and British and Irish Lions legend John Dawes OBE, the choir has brought its unique sound to sell out audiences across the UK, Europe and New Zealand. They have strong ties to their Welsh roots at Old Deer Park, the home of London Welsh RFC, and the Welsh exile community in London and the home counties.High-profile appearances have been on national radio and television and their defining moment was performing at the 2012 London Olympics in front of a worldwide audience of more than one billion. Welsh Rugby and song go hand in hand and the choir’s performances reflect this. Concert programmes include songs from the Male Voice Choir repertoire, shows and popular classics. Formed in 2003 the choir has gone from strength to strength, with its 40-strong members kept firmly in line by musical director Michael Wyn Jones. Jones. Michael has been a member of the BBC Symphony Chorus and the 1998 Choir of the Year Exmoor Singers, and is responsible for the development of the choir few could have predicted. The choir repertoire has been expanded, a new style of singing introduced, and innovations developed wherever possible. The result is a choir singing with an infectious enthusiasm. THIS CONCERT IS SUPPORTING: Cranleigh Scouts, Cranleigh Guides, St Joseph’s Specialist School & College and Cranleigh Rotary Charity Fund. |
